June Redfern was born in St Andrews and went on to study drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art in the late 1960’s. She has been both a teacher and a professional artist and is a renowned painter who has displayed work around the world including London's National Gallery. She has also appeared on BBC2's Oil on canvas series, exhibited in major commercial galleries and internationally at many art fairs.
Her solo exhibition, 'Real Lives' in 1981 at the Third Eye Centre, Glasgow, exhibited realist paintings influenced by her teaching experience in the 1970s in a school in Leith.
June was Artist-in-Residence at the National Gallery, London and her paintings from this period were exhibited at the Gallery in 1986. She has also exhibited, as an invited artist, at the RSW.
